Promotion Policies and History
Senior Judo rank promotions in the OJA (as in the USJA) are based on two
criteria: Competition and Service. Promotion points are awarded for specific
achievements in both of these areas and once a member has sufficient points and
time-in-grade, he/she becomes eligible for promotion. The member then has to
be examined and recommended by his/her coach (providing the coach has
sufficient rank to examine the student for the rank being tested for), and
based on the coach's recommendation, submitted for promotion.
